A freight train has derailed in Russia’s Bryansk border region, the second incident in two days, Russian officials said. Regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz said a locomotive and several wagons had run off the tracks after an explosive device exploded.
Russian Railways described the incident as an “illegal interference in rail transport business”. It is not believed that there were any casualties.
The derailment happened at 7:47 pm local time (1647 GMT) on the section of the track between Snezhetskaya and Beliye Berega, near the city of Bryansk, a notice on the railway’s Telegram page said.
He added that rescuers were at the scene and all operations on the line had been suspended. Another video released by the Russian Investigative Committee shows investigators at the scene of derailed cars.
A similar incident happened on Monday morning on the Bryansk-Unecha line, much closer to the Ukrainian border – on this occasion the locomotive and seven carriages caught fire.
The area which also borders Belarus – has seen a number of acts of vandalism since Russia invaded Ukraine.
